Field of View Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate the projected field of view of an OPS243 radar sensor based on mounting height, sensor angle, road position, and lane width. The tool shows the estimated center point of the field of view, projected length and width, and the approximate road coverage for each lane.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the mounting height of the sensor.
  2. Enter the vertical angle, which is the downward angle of the sensor toward the road.
  3. Enter the horizontal angle, which is the angle the sensor is aimed into the road.
  4. Enter the distance from the sensor to the road centerline.
  5. Select whether the sensor is mounted on the left or right side of the road.
  6. Enter the lane width.
  7. Review the projected field of view and lane coverage in the road view diagram.
InputWhat it means
Mounting HeightHeight of the OPS243 sensor above the road surface.
Sensor Vertical AngleThe downward angle of the sensor. 0° is parallel to the ground.
Sensor Horizontal AngleThe angle at which the sensor is aimed at the road.
Sensor to Road CenterDistance from the sensor to the center of the road.
Sensor Side of RoadWhether the sensor is mounted on the left or right side of the road.
Lane WidthThe width of each lane is used to estimate lane coverage.

Understanding the Results

The calculator provides the estimated field-of-view center point, indicating where the sensor is aimed on the road. The FOV length and FOV width estimate the projected radar coverage area on the road surface. The lane length values indicate the approximate coverage within each lane.

The road view diagram shows the sensor location, road area, projected field of view, and lane coverage.
